What Doraemon is

Doraemon is a Japanese franchise about a robotic cat from the future who helps a schoolboy named Nobita with gadgets pulled from a pocket on his belly. It began as a manga and has been adapted into several television anime series and a long line of feature films. For Indian viewers the two versions that matter most are the older series from 1979 and the newer series that began in 2005, which Indian fans often call New Doraemon.

The stories are mostly short, self-contained episodes about school, friends and gadgets gone wrong, so you can start almost anywhere. The feature films are longer adventures that stand alone as well.

The Hindi dub story

According to the Wikipedia list of non-Japanese Doraemon versions, the franchise arrived in India on Hungama TV in May 2005, and Hindi dubbing began with the 1979 series. The same page says Disney Channel India, a sister channel, has been rerunning the older dubbed episodes, and that later episodes of the 2005 series began airing on Hungama TV and Disney Channel India in October and November 2013. We found conflicting dates on lower quality pages, so treat exact start dates as approximate.

The same source says that, as of 2023, 35 films including special films had been dubbed into Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and shown on Hungama TV and Disney Channel, and that two were released in cinemas. It also reports films airing on Nickelodeon Sonic from June 2025, with Kannada dubs now being made as well. For streaming, it says new seasons are on JioHotstar in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

A fan wiki mentions a second Hindi dub made by Nickelodeon India around 2010. That is a weak source, so we mention it only as something we could not verify. We have not watched any of these dubs and make no claim about their quality.

How to check availability yourself

Open the JioHotstar app or website and search for Doraemon. Open the title page and look at the season list, then look for the audio or language option on the player. Hindi, Tamil and Telugu are the languages reported by our source, but the options shown on your own account are what count.

For television, check the programme guide of Hungama TV, Disney Channel India and Nickelodeon Sonic through your cable or DTH operator, or through the channel websites. Films are usually shown on weekends or around holidays, but schedules vary.

For the Netflix film, search the title in the Netflix app, open its details page and read the audio and subtitles line. We could not confirm Hindi there, so do not rely on it until you see it listed. Unofficial uploads of Doraemon exist on video sites, but they are not recommended and we do not link to them.

What to know before you start

Doraemon has aired for decades and has far too many episodes to count in one sitting, so pick a few episodes or one film first. We did not verify an official episode total or age rating for this page, so check the rating shown in the app if you are choosing for a young child.
