Weathering with You (2019)

Weathering with You 2019: what the film is

Weathering with You (original title Tenki no Ko) is a Japanese animated romance-fantasy written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, released in Japan on 19 July 2019. TMDB lists a running time of 112 minutes and credits CoMix Wave Films, TOHO and KADOKAWA among the production companies.

The setup is simple to state. A first-year high-school student, Hodaka, runs away from an island home to Tokyo and finds the city expensive and lonely. Rain falls almost every day. He drifts into freelance work for an occult magazine, and on a busy street corner he meets Hina, a girl who appears able to clear the sky. What that ability costs, and what it means for the two of them, is the story's territory, so we leave it alone here.

This is an overview written before any MovieTime viewing; we have not reviewed the film itself, and nothing below is a verdict on its quality.

Who made it, and who voices the leads

Makoto Shinkai is credited as both writer and director. Music for the film is credited to Yojiro Noda, the RADWIMPS frontman, along with Yusuke Takeda, Satoshi Yamaguchi and Akira Kuwahara. A press summary also says Toko Miura sang the theme songs "Grand Escape" and "Shukusai".

In the original Japanese version, Kotaro Daigo voices Hodaka and Nana Mori voices Hina. Supporting voices include Tsubasa Honda as Natsumi Suga, Shun Oguri as Keisuke Suga, Sakura Kiryu as Nagisa Amano and Chieko Baisho as Fumi Tachibana. Voice casts of dubs differ from this list, so check the language track you choose.

If you like looking at how an animator treats weather, this is a film where rain and sky sit at the centre of the premise, so the visuals are likely the first thing to judge for yourself.

Is there a Hindi dub?

Checked on 27 October 2026. Reports we saw say that Crunchyroll India added an official Hindi dub of Weathering with You in December 2025 as part of a rollout of Makoto Shinkai's films. The sources we found disagree on the exact day (dates between 4 and 18 December 2025 appear), and they are fan and anime-news sites, not a Crunchyroll page we could open. Separately, an Apple TV catalogue page lists Hindi (India) among its audio languages for the film. We could not confirm from an official page that the Hindi track is live in India today.

Streaming rights and language tracks change without notice. Before you plan an evening around it, open the film's page on Crunchyroll India or Apple TV in your own region and look at the audio options listed there. Please stick to official platforms; we do not point to unofficial uploads.

Before you press play

The film is a coming-of-age romance with a fantasy element, aimed at viewers comfortable with a slower, atmospheric pace and a quiet emotional register. It was shown in Indian cinemas on 11 October 2019 in Japanese with English subtitles, according to one report we found.

It is also commonly discussed alongside Shinkai's earlier film Your Name. Press and fan write-ups mention brief links between the two, but we have not confirmed details from official sources and will not spoil them here. Weathering with You is built around its own lead characters, so seeing the earlier film first is optional rather than required.
