Synopsis
A young man sets out to find his missing grandfather and ends up inside a vast mansion where something sinister is waiting. The Telugu fantasy horror comedy, written and directed by Maruthi, stars Prabhas in his first full-blown horror-entertainer.
The RajaSaab 2026 explained: Prabhas meets haunted-house comedy
The RajaSaab 2026 is a Telugu fantasy horror comedy written and directed by Maruthi, with Prabhas in the title role. Reports describe it as the actor's first outing in a full horror-entertainer, which makes it a noticeable change after a run of large action and period projects.
The publicly shared premise is simple: a man hunting for his missing grandfather lands in a mansion that hides a sinister presence. Wikipedia lists Prabhas in two parts, Raju, called Rajasaab, and a character named the Joker. Everything beyond that we leave untouched so you can go in fresh.
Cast and crew
Beside Prabhas, the credited cast includes Sanjay Dutt as Kanakaraju, the grandfather, Nidhhi Agerwal as Bessy, Malavika Mohanan as Bhairavi and Riddhi Kumar as Anitha. Zarina Wahab plays the grandmother, Gangadevi, while Boman Irani, Samuthirakani, Brahmanandam and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar are among the other names reported.
People Media Factory, with T. G. Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad as producers, backed the film. Thaman S composed the music and Karthik Palani is credited with the cinematography. Singles such as 'Rebel Saab' and 'Nache Nache' were released before the film, and the latter is described as a remake of a 1982 Bappi Lahiri song from Disco Dancer.
Release date, delays and where to watch
The film reached cinemas worldwide on 9 January 2026, timed to the Sankranti season, with Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam dubbed versions. It had been announced for 10 April 2025 and later for 5 December 2025; reports at the time linked the delays to unfinished post-production and VFX.
According to Wikipedia, JioHotstar holds the streaming rights. The Telugu version and the dubbed Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions arrived on 6 February 2026, and the Hindi dub followed on 6 March 2026. The listed runtime is 183 minutes. India's rating is reported as U/A, with a trimmed beheading scene, per an Indian Express report cited there.
What to expect and who it suits
At just over three hours, this is a long film, and a mix of horror and comedy needs the laughs and the scares to alternate without sagging. We cannot say how well the horror-comedy blend works because we have not watched it.
Expect star-driven spectacle, a heavy dose of songs, and fantasy elements suggested by the genre tag. Viewers wanting restrained, slow-burn horror may find the mix too loud; Prabhas fans curious about him in a lighter, spookier mode are the obvious audience. This is a preview, not a verdict.
Who will enjoy The RajaSaab?
- Prabhas fans curious about a horror-comedy turn
