Mollywood Times 2026: a debut-filmmaker comedy about ambition

Mollywood Times 2026 is a Malayalam film that looks at the film industry from the point of view of someone trying to break in. Its lead, Vineeth Madhavan, played by Naslen, is an aspiring filmmaker who wants his debut to leave a permanent mark on Malayalam cinema, and who keeps running into setbacks. Reports describe the film as a dark comedy with a psychological streak, and some outlets mention a horror project at the heart of the plot.

Films about filmmaking tend to mix affection with satire, and the premise suggests exactly that: a story about dreams, vanity and the gap between vision and execution.

Cast and crew behind it

Abhinav Sunder Nayak directed the film from a script credited to Ramu Sunil, and Ashiq Usman produced it. The film is billed as a psychological dark comedy about ambition in the industry.

Naslen headlines, supported by Sharaf U Dheen, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sangeeth Prathap, Roshan Shanavas, Gopika Ramesh, Jagadish and Balachandran Chullikkad. Basil Joseph makes a special appearance as a character named Superstar Swaroop. Jakes Bejoy composed the music, and the soundtrack was released through Sony Music in May 2026.

Release date, rating and where to watch Mollywood Times

For streaming, JioHotstar began carrying the film on 3 July 2026, and Asianet is reported to hold satellite rights. Wikipedia notes mixed critical response, which is a reminder that expectations may differ from your own taste. As always, we have not watched the film, and this page is not a review.

Who this suits

At nearly three hours, this is a long watch for a comedy-drama, so patience for a leisurely build matters. The premise should appeal to anyone who enjoys behind-the-scenes stories about cinema, particularly Malayalam audiences who recognise the industry's in-jokes and the cameo culture that this film seems to lean on.

Naslen's fans and viewers who like dark humour are the clearest audience. If you prefer a tight, short runtime or straightforward feel-good comedy, check other viewers' opinions first.

It also helps to know that the cast leans on familiar Malayalam faces, including Sharaf U Dheen and Vineeth Sreenivasan, and that a Basil Joseph cameo is part of the billing. If you enjoy spotting such appearances, that adds to the appeal.
