Lucky The Superstar (2026)

Lucky The Superstar 2026: a Tamil film about a famous puppy

Lucky The Superstar 2026 is a Tamil-language children's comedy drama whose title character is a Labrador retriever. By the account on Wikipedia, Lucky is a talented puppy who has lost her home, wanders between places and affects the people she meets. Politicians eventually take notice of her, which sets up the comic complications.

There is one detail worth noting for expectations: some of the animal characters are voiced, with credits going to Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiah, Rajendran and Meghna Sumesh. So this is not only a quiet dog-and-owner story but a film that gives its animals a comic voice, something the family audience may enjoy.

Release date and where to watch

This was a direct-to-streaming release. JioHotstar announced it for 20 February 2026 and it did not have a theatrical run, according to the coverage we saw. Wikipedia adds that it was also dubbed into Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali, which is useful for families who want it in another language. We could not confirm a certificate. The listed runtime is 122 minutes.

Cast and crew

G. V. Prakash Kumar and Anaswara Rajan are billed in lead roles, with R. Sarathkumar, Devadarshini and Subbu Panchu among the supporting names. Uday Mahesh directs and wrote the story; screenplay credits go to him, Sabhapathy Shanmugam and G. Naren Kumar. Kavithalayaa Productions made it, with producers Kandaswamy Bharathan and Pushpa Kandasamy. Sources spell the director's name in different ways, so you may see variants in other listings.

Who it suits

A dog protagonist, light political satire and a family-friendly tone point to an evening with children. Parents may want to check the exact certificate in-app before pressing play.

Because the story rests on an animal central character, its success will depend a great deal on how the dog is handled on screen and how the voiced animal characters are written. Those are things a trailer can hint at but a preview cannot settle.

The film is also a reminder of how many Tamil releases now go straight to streaming. For households that rarely visit cinemas, that makes a title like this easy to try on a weekend without any ticket planning. Dubbed versions widen the audience further, so children who do not read subtitles can follow along in a language they know.

We have not watched it and do not judge how well the comedy works.
