Synopsis
In this sequel to the 2021 Telugu hit Akhanda, the divine warrior Akhanda protects a young scientist as a biological threat looms over India. Nandamuri Balakrishna plays a dual role under Boyapati Sreenu's direction in the fantasy action drama Akhanda 2: Thaandavam.
Akhanda 2 2025: where the sequel picks up
Akhanda 2 2025, titled Akhanda 2: Thaandavam in full, is a Telugu fantasy action drama and the follow-up to Akhanda, the 2021 film that paired actor Nandamuri Balakrishna with director Boyapati Sreenu. This is reported to be the fourth collaboration between the two, which makes it a continuation of a long-running actor-director partnership as much as a sequel.
From the published description, the story follows Akhanda, a divine warrior, who steps in to protect a young scientist while India faces a biological threat. We stop at that premise and keep the rest unspoiled.
Cast, crew and music
Balakrishna plays a dual role, the warrior Akhanda and an MLA named Bala Murali Krishna. Aadhi Pinisetty is listed as Netra, a tantrik antagonist, Samyuktha as DRDO officer Archana Goswami, and Harshaali Malhotra as scientist Janani. Kabir Duhan Singh, Saswata Chatterjee, Ronson Vincent and Sangay Tsheltrim appear in other parts. One listing, on Digit, names different actors, which conflicts with the others, so we rely on the Wikipedia and trade cast.
Boyapati Sreenu wrote and directed. Thaman S composed the songs and score. Producers are Ram Achanta, Gopi Achanta and Ishan Saksena, under the banners 14 Reels Plus Entertainment and IVY Entertainment, with Zee Studios as distributor.
Release date and Akhanda 2 OTT: where to watch
The film released in theatres on 12 December 2025, with a runtime of about 165 minutes and a UA certificate, as reported by the Times of India and cited on Wikipedia. Trade coverage describes the reception as mixed, and we leave judgments of quality to your own viewing.
For home viewing, Netflix began streaming it on 9 January 2026, in Telugu with dubbed Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions, according to several outlets. If you are new to the series, note that the 2021 original is the natural place to start, and Wikipedia says a third instalment, tentatively Jai Akhanda, is teased at the end.
Should you watch the first film first?
Sequels in this style usually carry their own self-contained mission, but they lean on the original's mythology and the audience's affection for its hero. A viewer who knows the 2021 film will recognise the character's presence and the devotional-action tone that Boyapati and Balakrishna favour.
That tone means loud, large-scale action, spiritual imagery and heightened dialogue. If that is your taste, this suits you; if you prefer grounded storytelling, it may not. This is a preview of publicly reported facts, and we have not seen the film.
