Adbhut 2024: a ghost story that skipped cinemas
Adbhut 2024 is a Hindi supernatural horror film written and directed by Sabbir Khan, and it has an unusual release history: it never opened in theatres. Sony MAX presented it as its first direct-to-television film, and it premiered on that channel on 15 September 2024. Wikipedia credits Sony Pictures Networks India and Sabbir Khan as producers, and lists the runtime at 120 minutes.
The premise, as described, is a haunted-house mystery built around a detective. Gajraj Awasthy is asked to examine disturbances at a hill house occupied by Dr. Aditya Rawat and Dr. Shruti Rawat. His trail leads to Mary Mathews, who seems connected to what is happening, and the film tells the case as a memory of something that happened five years earlier. We will not go beyond that, as the film's twists are best left unspoiled. This is a preview: we have not watched Adbhut and can only report what published listings say.
Cast and crew
Nawazuddin Siddiqui leads as Detective Gajraj Awasthy. Diana Penty is credited as Mary Matthews, also listed as Anjali Malhotra, and Shreya Dhanwanthary plays Dr. Shruti Rawat opposite Rohan Mehra as Dr. Aditya Rawat. Vikram Gokhale is listed in a supporting role as Khan; note that casting lists differ between outlets on the fourth major name, so we follow Wikipedia's credits here.
Behind the camera, cinematography is credited to Binod Pradhan, editing to Manan Sagar and music to Julius Packiam. Wikipedia reports that the project was announced in October 2021, shot mainly in Shimla and wrapped in May 2022, which means it sat for over two years before airing. Films made for television also tend to be shaped by broadcast realities, such as running time and ad breaks, so expectations should be set accordingly.
Adbhut release date and where to watch
The film premiered on Sony MAX on 15 September 2024, per Sakshi Post and Wikipedia, and it was not released theatrically or on an OTT service at launch. We did not find a confirmed streaming platform in the sources we checked, so we do not name one. Repeat telecasts on Sony channels or a later digital listing are plausible, but that is speculation and not an announcement. Search the title in your usual streaming apps and Sony's own platform. Genre labels also vary: Wikipedia calls it supernatural horror, while other databases list drama and thriller, so expect a mystery-driven ghost story rather than relentless scares. We could not verify a certificate.
