Shambhala 2025: faith against science in a 1980s village

Shambhala 2025 is a Telugu supernatural horror thriller, also billed as Aadi Shambhala: A Mystical World, written and directed by Ugandhar Muni. According to its Wikipedia entry it runs about 144 minutes.

The setting is what stands out. The story is placed in the 1980s, in a village where a meteorite has just landed and odd occurrences follow. Local superstition says something supernatural is at work. Vikram, a geologist with the Geological Survey of India, arrives to look into it and will accept only evidence he can test.

That clash between a rational outsider and a community that trusts old beliefs is a well-used device in Indian horror, so the question for viewers is how fresh the execution feels. We have not watched the film and make no claims about that.

Cast and crew

Aadi Saikumar plays Vikram, Archana Iyer plays Devi and Swasika plays Vasantha. Madhunandan appears as Police Constable Hanumanthu and Ravi Varma as the villager Ramulu, with further roles for Harsha Vardhan, Ramaraju and others.

Music is credited to Sricharan Pakala, cinematography to Praveen K. Bangarri and editing to Shravan Katikaneni. Mahidhar Reddy and Rajasekhar Annabhimoju produced under the Shining Pictures banner. For a horror film set in a remote village, the sound design and camera work usually carry much of the mood, so those credits are worth keeping an eye on.

Release date and where to watch

The Telugu version opened in cinemas on 25 December 2025. A Hindi-dubbed version was scheduled for 9 January 2026, with the Hindi trailer reported on 5 January. One entertainment site reports a streaming debut on Aha around 22 January 2026, but we could not confirm this from an official source, so check the platform directly for where to watch.

Things worth knowing before you press play

A few practical notes. The film is in Telugu, and a Hindi-dubbed version exists for viewers who prefer it. It is a supernatural horror thriller, so the tone is tense rather than comic. Because the premise sets belief against evidence, the pleasure for many viewers will lie in guessing which side the story finally favours, so avoid spoiler-heavy discussion threads until you have seen it. Who it suits

If you enjoy mystery-led horror in which the answer may be either a rational explanation or something stranger, the premise will interest you.
