Satluj (2026)

Satluj 2026: a biographical drama with a long road to release

Satluj 2026 is a biographical drama directed by Honey Trehan about Jaswant Singh Khalra, the human rights activist who documented cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings by police during the Punjab insurgency of the early 1990s. According to Wikipedia, the film was earlier known as Ghallughara and then Punjab '95, before arriving under its final title after a prolonged censorship process.

This is a heavy, real-world subject, and the film is rooted in a documented chapter of recent history. Anyone approaching it should expect a serious drama rather than a conventional thriller. As we have not watched it, we are describing the premise and context only, and we are not judging its accuracy or its treatment of events.

Cast and crew

Diljit Dosanjh plays Jaswant Singh Khalra, with Arjun Rampal as Samudra Singh, a CBI officer, Suvinder Vicky as SSP Surjit Singh Sugga and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan as Paramjit Kaur Khalra. The script is credited to Trehan, Niren Bhatt and Utsav Maitra, and the film is produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, with Ronnie Screwvala, Abhishek Chaubey and Trehan among the producers.

K. U. Mohanan handled cinematography and A. Sreekar Prasad the editing; music is by Marc Marder. Trehan is known as a director of crime dramas, and the line-up of cinematographer and editor suggests a serious, craft-focused production. The reported runtime is around 164 minutes, so it is a long sitting.

Release date and where to watch

Wikipedia states that Satluj was released digitally on ZEE5 on 3 July 2026 without a theatrical release. The same article reports that it was removed from ZEE5 India within days and from ZEE5's international catalogue on 11 July 2026. We could not verify whether it has since returned to any platform, so current availability is not confirmed.

That makes the practical advice simple: check official platforms and trusted announcements for any re-release, and avoid unofficial copies. This page is a preview based on a single main reference plus a secondary listing, and details such as runtime differ slightly between sources.

It is also worth knowing that the film is in Punjabi and Hindi, with Marc Marder composing a short soundtrack that was released on 13 July 2026. Given the sensitivity of the subject and the film's disputed path to audiences, readers are encouraged to consult reliable historical and news sources alongside the film, instead of treating any single dramatisation as a complete record of what happened.
