Nilakanta (2026)

Nilakanta 2026: a village drama from Rakesh Madhavan

Nilakanta 2026 is a Telugu-language film written and directed by Rakesh Madhavan and released in cinemas on 2 January 2026, distributed by Global Cinemas. It is produced by Marlapalli Srinivasulu and D. Venugopal under LS Productions and Global Cinemas, with Anil Inamadugu as executive producer. Wikipedia describes it as an action drama, while one review quoted there frames it as a rural, emotional sports drama with commercial elements, so genre labels vary between sources.

What can be said about the story is limited. A streaming listing describes a village that prizes education and a tailor who, after a mistake made in youth, is kept out of schooling and confined to the village for fifteen years. Only one listing gave that outline, so treat it as a reported premise rather than a confirmed synopsis. We have not watched the film.

Cast, music and crew

Master Mahendran leads as Nilakanta, and Yashna Muthuluri plays Seetha; some listings spell the actress's surname differently. Supporting names include Neha Pathan, Sneha Ullal, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Ramki and Babloo Prithiveeraj, with Anil Inamadugu and Kancharapalem Raju also listed.

Mark Prashanth composed the music, and the soundtrack is listed with eight songs, among them Ee Prema, Kaalam Edho and Vellake Vellake Sakhiya, sung by names such as Haricharan, Karthik and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi. Sravan G. Kumar handled both cinematography and editing, which is a combination worth noticing: one person controlling the look and the rhythm often gives a small-budget film a consistent feel. Whether it does here is something only a viewing can answer.

Where to watch Nilakanta and who it suits

One listing says Nilakanta began streaming on Sun NXT on 6 February 2026. We saw this in a single source and could not match it against an official announcement, so check the Sun NXT catalogue directly and note the platform may carry it in Telugu only. Wikipedia does not list a runtime or OTT date.

The film looks aimed at viewers who like emotional village stories with a commercial streak, and at those who follow smaller Telugu releases outside the big-star calendar. If you want a polished large-scale spectacle, the reported scale and billing suggest this is not that kind of release.

Because coverage of the film is thin and spread across listing sites that sometimes disagree on spellings and credits, a sensible approach is to rely on the streaming platform's own page for the final cast list and language options. We would rather say that plainly than fill the gap with guesses about the story's turns or its performances.
