Synopsis
A Tamil coming-of-age romantic drama, the directorial debut of Aakash Baskaran, led by Atharvaa with Preity Mukhundhan and Kayadu Lohar. Press coverage of the trailer describes a tale of one-sided love with a tribute to the hero's father; detailed plot points have not been officially laid out.
Idhayam Murali 2026: the basics
Idhayam Murali 2026 is a Tamil coming-of-age romance headed by Atharvaa. Aakash Baskaran directs it, reportedly as his debut feature, and co-wrote the screenplay with S. Ramana Girivasan. Dawn Pictures produced it. Press coverage of the trailer described it as a heartfelt story of one-sided love in which the hero pays tribute to his father, but the makers kept most plot details back, and we do not want to guess at them.
The title will sound familiar to Tamil film fans, since it echoes a name from earlier Tamil cinema. Whether the film is a remake, a sequel or simply borrows that spirit is not something we found confirmed, so we leave it open. Because we have not watched the film, this piece is a viewer's guide to what is publicly known rather than a review.
Cast and crew worth knowing
Atharvaa is joined by Preity Mukhundhan and Kayadu Lohar in the female lead roles, according to entertainment coverage, and Fahadh Faasil is reported to appear in an extended cameo. Thaman S, better known as a music composer, is reported to be back in front of the camera after a long gap and also to have scored the film. Manoj Paramahamsa and C.H. Sai are credited with cinematography and Pradeep E. Ragav with editing.
The BBFC listing names a second director, Senthil Kumar Kesavan, alongside Aakash Baskaran, while most Indian coverage credits only Baskaran. We have listed Baskaran and note the discrepancy for transparency. Character names were not given in the sources we saw, so we do not attach any.
Release, OTT and what to expect
Pinkvilla reported a theatrical date of 10 July 2026, and a Telugu-dubbed version was planned for the same day. Esquire India reports a Netflix premiere on 7 August 2026, and the film may be offered in several languages; one database page still carries an older date and no platform, so it appears to be out of date. Coverage also mentions a legal dispute raised before the Madras High Court by another filmmaker over unpaid dues linked to the producer; we found no outcome, so we make no claim about it.
Expect a youthful, emotion-first romance rather than a plot-heavy thriller. If you enjoy college-age love stories with a family thread, this is the neighbourhood the premise sits in. Reports of reception are mixed to positive, which is only a rough guide, so sample the trailer and decide for yourself.
