Dastaar (2026)

Dastaar 2026: a Punjabi story set in 1980s Britain

Dastaar 2026 is a Punjabi-language film directed by Amar Hundal, with White Hill Studios credited as the production company. The title refers to the Sikh turban, and the setting is not Punjab but Britain in the 1980s, which already separates it from the usual village-and-city template of Punjabi cinema.

The storyline reported across listings follows a Sikh immigrant whose family suffers because of racist violence. After his loss he becomes a community leader. We have kept the description at that level so as not to give away how the story unfolds.

Cast and credits as listed

Tarsem Jassar leads. Sacnilk additionally lists Geet Goraya, Yograj Singh and Oliver Briscombe, while other pages add further names such as Sarbjit Cheema, and the lists differ from one site to the next. Because the cast is not consistent across sources, we name only those that appeared in the most detailed listing.

One point where sources disagree is the running time: a couple of pages give roughly two and a half hours, another gives about two hours. We have therefore left runtime out. Genre labels also vary, from drama to action-thriller.

Release date and where to watch Dastaar

The Dastaar release date was 17 July 2026 in cinemas; the BBFC listing in the UK also carries that date. Since it has been out for months, a cinema run may be over in many places.

No OTT platform or streaming date has been announced in the material we found. If you want to watch Dastaar at home, check the official social pages of the cast and White Hill Studios for any later announcement.

Why it is worth a look, and who it is for

Diaspora stories are less common in Punjabi mainstream cinema than comedies and romances, so a drama about Sikh identity and community in Britain is a notable choice on its face. Viewers interested in migration history, or in following Tarsem Jassar's screen work, are the natural audience.

This page is not a review. We have not watched Dastaar, so we cannot speak to how it handles its heavy subject, and we do not repeat opinions from other sites.

When you search for Dastaar 2026 cast details you will see slightly different names on different sites, which is common for films that are released in several countries at once. The reliable anchors are the director, the lead and the 1980s British setting. For a historical-leaning drama, the period detail in costume, locations and language is often what viewers remember, though we cannot comment on how well this film handles it.
